Primary Route (WIP): General notes: Use Message Speed 8 You want to save before entering gates or doing tournament fights, with few exceptions. Soft-resetting after the save when breeding saves a few seconds Buy BeastTail as soon as you have the money for it Start the game, talk to the king, talk to Pulio, talk to the king again, consider getting herbs in left room before going to the Gate of Beginner. Set Message Speed before entering Beginner Beginner Gate: Recruit Female Dracky, optional Anteater If no AE, get Slib to level 2 and Dracky to level 2-3 (rare to not get this organically) Defeat Hale, replace level 1 Anteater, or Slib if AE > lv1. G Class Basically mash through this. Set Hale to Cautious when you need healing. Probably want to set Hale Cautious on last turn of fight 2 so that everyone is healthy enough on turn 1 of fight 3 that they can all go offensive. Taking out the Spookies before they use Lushlicks speeds up the fight. Talisman (Bottom Gate): Collect meats & Recruit Golem Early Picky recruit possible if you have a Porkchop and encounter one Try to keep ribs to sell Against Golem, Healie Cautious, rest offensive (don't bother sleeping him) Golem replaces Slib/Anteater Villager (Top Gate): Recruit Picky (Floors 1-2) & Gremlin (Floors 3-4) & Dragon Picky and Gremlin both need Porkchop + Beefjerky to reach max recruit chance. One Porkchop is fine. If an enemy monster is missing any HP, you can throw an herb at it instead of a beefjerky. 20 HP healed is equal to beefjerky. Picky can replace either Dracky or Hale. Keep Hale if low on herbs or don't have a lot of extra items to sell. Gremlins can cast Firebal twice (?) each. If you find two, maybe parry your weaker monsters turn 1. Gremlin goes to farm. Don't use any herbs against the Dragon; Golem can solo him. Add Dragon to team, kick lead monster (Dragon goes to back slot unless someone died) Party will be Gremlin + Dragon Talk to Pulio, PICK UP Gremlin and trade lead monster (places Gremlin in front slot) Then, DROP OFF remaining monster, leaving Gremlin and Dragon. No re-order needed. Buy WarpWing and 10+ herbs, sell everything else If you have a rib or two (unlikely), buying BeastTail early is nice. Enter Madknight gate, note Dragon's max HP - grind to 300 XP away from 10 if 53+ HP, 200 XP away from 11 otherwise (possible range 48-60) Collect items as you go, but try to do the bulk of the grinding on floors 4-5 to avoid getting poisoned. Floors 1-3 have some risk of Crestpents poisoning you and SpotSlimes using CallHelp for 40+ damage. Also Bantams with Sandstorm. Floors 4-5 are mostly safe, small chance of DragonKids using Dodge and reflecting an attack, so keep HP high (or use FireAir) until you've seen them do it once. Floors 6-8 have 1EyeClowns that use Blazemore, though Dragon resists it. Horks re-introduce poison risk. Be very careful at levels 6-7, but after those two levels you'll be way more durable. Fighting wandering masters could be risky, but on average slightly weaker and slightly more XP than random enconters Wing out after grinding is done Collect Picky + Dracky, go back into the gate. Get both birds to 10 and get Dragon to BlazeAir Recruit MadKnight Dragon parry turn one, then attack. Dracky Sleep, should be highly effective Picky Sap x2, then attack. E Class (Dragon, Picky, MadKnight) This setup should be safe enough. Only way to reasonably make it safer without skipping F is to level Golem to 10 alongside the Dragon and use it instead of Picky. Unfortunately, you're going to just mash A through this whole tournament, all on Charge. Fight 1: Consider resetting if Treeslime paralyzes someone turn one. Fight 2: Consider resetting if FairyDrak surrounds everyone turn one. Though you might get lucky and still win with enough HP for Fight 3. DrakSlime usually takes a deep breath and then breathes fire turn 2. Dragon usually breathes every turn, but can rarely use FireSlash. Usually your monsters will kill DrakSlime turn one, then the FairyDrak. You want 50+ HP on Dran and Pash for the final fight. Picky doesn't matter; if it doesn't die in Fight 2, it'll fall to Icebolt at the start of Fight 3. Fight 3: Snaily1 will cast Icebolt almost every turn. Snaily2 will use CallHelp almost every turn. Hopefully it fails. Armorpede can do a few things, usually TwinSlash, maybe Bikill first. The big wild card is Pash. He'll use Massacre in this fight, and if he hits Dran, you're starting over. The most common outcome of this fight involves Dran using BlazeAir turn one, and Pash finishing the job. Sometimes Dran gets two BlazeAirs. The second most common outcome is Pash Massacring Dran or himself and it's over. (Very rarely, Dran might finish the job if Pash massacres himself??) I would expect this tournament to take two or three tries. It's the least stable part of this route, but there's not much else you can do. 1st Rock-Paper-Scissors: 2 1 2 3 2 Breed Picky w/ Mick's Lizardman (Wyvern B) Breed Dracky w/ Dran (Wyvern A) & hatch Hatch Wyvern B Deposit MadKnight Bewilder gate - 1st room, 3rd door, right gate Grind to 11 (both tier 2 breath), fight FaceTree Don't need any random encounter XP, but one fight helps. Need 500 XP to get level 11, stumps give 150 each. If you enter the boss room under level 6, kill all four stumps Level 6-8, kill three stumps Level 9, kill two. Level 10, you had a pretty bad gate, but one stump might get you 11. Add FaceTree to team, consider putting it in the lead to soak hits in D Class D Class Blast first battle on Charge Second battle, go Cautious on turn two to heal, try to end with relatively high HP Third battle: Start with one turn of Mixed/Mixed/Mixed or Mixed/Mixed/Cautious. Up to you if you want to the tree to participate. Wyverns both have SleepAir, Wyvern A might also use Surround. Tree will StopSpell and then Curse. StopSpell will stop RogueNite from using Heal, but if he's using Heal, he's not using EvilSlash. Turn two, go Charge/Charge/Mixed or Charge/Charge/Cautious. Only real risk in this fight is if the RogueNite decides to hit with EvilSlash every turn. Sleep, Surround, and Curse can mitigate this. Killing him is ideal, but they'll kill the cats first. Breed Wyvern A w/ Mick's DeadNite (Goose, female) Breed Wyvern B w/ Teto's IceMan (Blizzardy, female (usually is but not always)) Buy a WarpWing (and BeastTail if you still don't have it). Couple herbs and Lovewaters can't hurt. Check genders at Egg Evaluator Hatch both eggs, goose first then Blizzardy Jump into either Anger, or one of the gates before it, and take one battle. Get at least level 5. Then use the WarpWing. This lets you start Anger with a lot more MP. TODO: Decide which gate is best. Anger Gate Try to hit level 10 before the bottom floor, so you can hit the DragonKids with IceAir Fight eggs until birds hit level 15, and then kill one more egg. Blizzardy needs StrongD at level 14. Rest of XP is to get Golem to level 10 before we breed it. You also want to save 20 MP on both birds for the Wrex fight. Make up the XP later if you have level 14 but are low on MP (XP correction is explained in Arena gate grind below). Goose Forgets: 10 - CurseOff 12 - PanicAll, DrakSlash, Slashlime, DeChaos 14 - LureDance Bliz Forgets: 11 - TailWind (new) 14 - Guardian Battlerex Fight: FaceTree - Curse Wrex, and then throw OddDance until she runs out of MP MadGoose - TakeMagic turn one, heal or RobDance until Defense lands twice, then use DrakSlash. Blizzardy - Surround -> Defense x2 -> Iceslash Add Wrex to team ONLY if HP >= 140 (replace Face or Bliz) (HP range is 132-165) Arena Shopping (sell or vault everything else): 1 BeastTail 4 Repellants 4 Bookmarks 1 WarpWing Repeat this shopping for each Arena dive. If you have extra staves you want to sell, buy an extra bookmark and force a shop to spawn on level 3, but ideally do this on your final dive (vault the staves until then). Rock-Paper-Scissors #2: 1 2 3 3 1 Breed Blizzardy w/ FaceTree = FloraJay Arena Gate Grind Spawn meat merchants, two per dive, until over 12-15k gold + 4 Sirloins Save before entering Gate. Fight everything you happen to encounter, but you'll be repelling most of the time. Pick up staves if you see them. If you get one, hope for a merchant floor so you can sell them, or buy an extra BookMark to spawn one next dive. Reset quickly while looking for merchant tamers if you see any floor with large rectangles of land bordered by water on 1-3 sides, as these floors all have 12 or 16 screens. I usually check the closest screen and then soft reset. The vast majority of floors in this gate have 3-4 screens, which is why we're in here. Also note the merchant can't spawn on the same screen as the hole. If you spawn on a screen with two exits, check the BeastTail and walk away from the hole. The farm gate has the same floor composition, but random encounters are worth less XP and item spawns might be slightly worse. You can technically use that one instead, if you just want to spawn another merchant. Floor 1: Repellant, walk around until you confirm 2+ items exist on floor Reset if 0-1 items, or if they spawn in a way you have to pick them up. DO NOT COLLECT THE ITEMS Take 200 steps: Can use audio cues if you menu the repellent pretty consistently Can also track MP recovery: 20 MP from walking = 200 steps Better to take too many steps than too few. Bookmark before jumping down Floor 2: Repellant, look for merchant. Bookmark before fighting him Make sure he gives you at least 4k gold worth of meats. Reset and refight otherwise. Drop all jerkies, chops, and badmeats. Second merchant: Drop down holes until you find another floor with 2+ items. Repeat the process. (Don't repel until you confirm 2+ items) Don't drop the jerkies or chops this time, just sell them at GreatTree. If you have more than two BadMeats while shopping, put them in the vault. They can't be sold, so the vault is the only way to ditch multiplies. If you have items you don't want to sell, such as anything in the Reflection shopping list, go ahead and vault it for now. FJ Forgets: 10 OddDance (new) 14 SpeedUp 15 Curse (new) 16 Beat (new) Goose shouldn't learn anything else, even all the way up to 18. WhipBird A Forgets: 14 ChargeUp 14 TakeMagic 14 RobDance 15 PanicAll 16 DrakSlash 18 PsycheUp 20 SleepAll 22 ThickFog (new) WhipBird B Forgets: 5 SpeedUp 5 PoisonHit (new) 9 Firebane 10 Sleep 11 VacuSlash (new) 12 BeastCut (new) 12 DevilCut (new) 14 Snowstorm 15 Ironize (new) 20 TatsuCall (new) 22 ThickFog (new) During first dive, get FloraJay to 14 (StrongD), Golem to 10 If you killed enough eggs before fighting Wrex earlier, and Wrex is in the party, FloraJay at level 14 should get Golem enough XP. If Wrex is not in the party, get FloraJay to 2200 XP (lv 15 + 200). If you only barely got the birds to 14 before fighting Wrex, get an additional 850 XP (total 2350, FJ 15 + 350) if you have Wrex, 1300 otherwise (total 3500, FJ 17 + 150). Note - Farm monsters earn about 17.5% of what a team of three monsters earns. The number of monsters with you does not affect the XP earned by the farm. (I'm curious about the actual %. I tested it once but didn't write down my calculations, just the "17.5%" conclusion.) After 1st dive - Breed FloraJay w/ May's Rayburn (WhipBird B) (Shop) Breed Goose w/ Golem (WhipBird A) Hatch A, then B. (That's why they're refered to as A and B!) If you don't have Wrex, you'll need to hatch B first and re-order. Or deal with them being out of order, but it gets confusing over multiple runs. Continue diving First dive with two (lv 1) WhipBirds: Fight merchant #1, and then fight random encounter(s) until the birds are both level 10 before finding the next merchant, so that the merchant has stronger monsters/is worth more XP. If you have Wrex, grind to WhipBirds 16 (HP growth dropoff), Wrex 21 (Scorching) Else, grind to get both Whipbirds level 20 (IceStorm) Hopefully two dives is plenty, might need three. If you're really close, like 10k gold + three sirloins banked, just buy two repels/bookmarks and only spawn one dude. Random encounters for XP. (TODO: best floor to grind? Probably somewhere beyond Wingslimes??) If Wrex was low HP, add her to the team now. Team comp from here on out is Whip A -> Whip B -> other Go Shopping - Inventory for Reflection should be: 1 BeastTail 4 Sirloins 8 Repellants (or WarpStaves, if you've found any) 1 MapHerb 3 Bookmarks 3 Leaves + Dew + Sage's Stone? If you have money flowing out of your ears, you could chuck two sirloins at Wrex. Keep 4-5 for endgame, though. You can also cut two repellants pretty safely, and buy more healing items. Just hope you get some special/quick floors in Reflection. Could also skip one Bookmark, but if you scum the treasure floor in Reflection, you can't save before Durran. S Class 1st Fight: Blast on Charge 2nd Fight: First round, Mixed/Mixed/Charge A will use SleepAll or LureDance, B will use StopSpell and Surround. Depending on what hits, you can either put everyone on Charge now, or stay Mixed for a while. You really want the Slime's Firevolt to be sealed. It's usually the last monster to die, and if it's not casting spells, it's safe to switch to Cautious to heal up (unless Wrex kills it). B should be the faster bird, so keep that in mind when deciding who to heal with. Start final fight with as much health as possible 3rd Fight: This plan is really chaotic, and plays out very differently depending on what order the enemy monsters dies in. Enemies: Metabble - 10 HP. Casts Explodet almost every turn. Sometimes Firevolt instead. Roboster - 310 HP. Rainslash or QuadHits every turn. MetalDrak - 400 HP. Uses Massacre most turns. Sometimes SandStorm or a normal attack. Plan A: Alterante Mixed/Mixed/Charge and Cautious/Cautious/Charge A should LureDance, but will only do so if one of the enemies isn't already stunned at the start of the round. You usually need to heal on the off-turn, but if it has TatsuCall and you don't think you need it to heal, you could leave it on Mixed to try to get Tatsu out. If no TatsuCall, just go Charged instead. B should cast Defense, followed by Surround. If you need extra healing, go Cautious on a LureDance turn. After Surround lands, go Charged or Cautious instead of Mixed. Wrex can't do a lot here without Scorching, until Defense lands twice. But any chip damage she can contribute onto the Roboster makes it possible for it to fall to one Massacre. Plan B: If one of your birds dies, it's perfectly valid to sit on Cautious (StrongD/HealAll) until the MetalDrak kills one or more or all of the enemy monsters with Massacre. Reflection - Spawn warpwizard, recruit Mimic (one Sirloin) if you can, bookmark before Durran Save before entering gate Use MapHerb on floor 1, check map - is it a 16-screen (4x4) floor? If no, reset. If unsure, repel + walk around. Trigger to spawn wizard is to fully reveal a 16-screen floor. Just like in the Arena gate, some of them are easy to recognize without even checking the map. Bookmark before floor 2 Repel + Find wizard on floor 2 Wizard takes you to floor 22 Repel and walk all the way to floor 28. Open any chests you see, hope for a Mimic. Eight repellents, for nine floors. You'll need at least special floor, or fast floor. Mimic replaces Wrex. If no Mimic by the end of floor 26, use second bookmark and savescum to get a treasure room. Don't save before opening the chests; every now and then Reflection will give you an _actual_ treasure room instead of seven mimics and a Lovewater. Third bookmark is used on floor 28, before Durran. Durran + Servants Servants: Mimic should toast them in four turns. Go Mixed/Mixed/Charge for one turn, then put birds on Cautious. Note, you can't throw meat if both monsters are stunned. It takes four sirloins to max out their recruit chance, so throw at least three. Ideally, this Servant has 360+ ATK, allowing it to one-shot the King Metal in the final battle, but this isn't necessary. (Possible range 308-380) Terry: LureDance + Surround->Defense->Charge + Charge Pretty much all that needs to be said. Bird B can heal when necessary, but use LureDance every turn. In a pinch, set tactics to Cautious or Mixed and use items to heal. Manually command each turn, or Bird A won't LureDance every turn. Though it's kinda funny if Tatsu comes out. If you have TatsuCall, maybe call him after Surround lands? Recoup some of that time Wrex cost you by having sucky health... Servant will use Blazemost until both Defenses land, and then switch to which saves MP+animation time. Durran: LureDance + Defense->Surround + Charge Durran resists Blazemost, so lower his defense before doing Surround. Otherwise, same strat as Terry. If you have the money for it, it's very helpful to throw two Sirloins at the Servant. Liquidate your inventory if needed. The shop on the bottom-middle screen sells Sirloins for 1000 gold. Starry Tournament Fight 1: Charge. Any turn you think your birds might heal instead of StrongD'ing, swap to Cautious. Sometimes you get Stopspelled by the Centasaur. Whatever, just push through. Fight 2: Andreal - 340 HP, Infermost, Surround (rare), PoisonAir Unicorn - 220 HP, HealAll, Revive, Antidote MadDragon - 220 HP, Massacre, EvilSlash, LureDance (rare) This is another chaotic fight. MadDragon has Massacre and Andreal has PoisonAir, and is more likely to use PoisonAir with his spells sealed. And without Stopspell, it's even worse. If you get poisoned, Whip A might use Antidote instead of HealAll. It's not usually a problem with Infermost sealed away, but you could experiment with dropping Antidote for PanicAll or DrakSlash. Stopspell really helps in this fight. The Andreal's probably going to use PoisonAir anyway, and HealAll/Revive/Infermost all contribute to the chaos when you're trying to end at high HP. Start with one turn of Mixed/Mixed/Charge, then charge/cautious as needed to end the fight with high HP. If you lose a monster to Massacre, but still end with nearly max HP on the other two monsters, go ahead and proceed to the final fight. If the birds aren't going to use StrongD, though, just reset. Fight 3: MetalKing - 7 HP, Zap Coatol - 300 HP, Explodet, EvilSlash, BoltSlash (Explodet almost every turn) RainHawk - 380 HP, MegaMagic, Surge (MegaMagic always always turn one) Turn 1 - Cautious/Cautious/Cautious. Then, improvise. This fight's strategy is more monster-by-monster than turn-by-turn. It's really bad if the Rainhawk doesn't use MegaMagic turn one, but it happens. Try another turn of all Cautious and hopefully everyone lives. Turn 2 you can put the Servant back on Charge, but the birds will need to heal. If you get a chance, either bird can go on Mixed for differing results. Whip A can call Tatsu, which is very helpful. Whip B can cast Defense which isn't that useful, but Surround shuts down the Rainhawk. Servant will carry this fight if he's kept healthy. There's about a 1/3 chance the Servant has enough attack power to damage the King Metal with a normal attack, which makes this fight very difficult to lose. If the Servant dies, it's still possible to win, but you run through your MP very quickly if you let the birds use breath attacks. Use Mixed to get out Tatsu, and cast Defense until Coatol is hit by it twice, then use NO SP SK to deal damage. You should be setting up this "Plan B" even while the Servant is still alive. This entire route is designed to not lose this fight, so if you put in a little practice to figure out when you're safe vs when you need to heal, you should win this fight nearly every time. In my own practice, I feel like even if I start the fight down a monster, no matter which monster it is (Worst is probably Whip A?), I can win over 50% of the time. Further testing of this fight using comps that don't have StopSpell (skip FloraJay breed) and/or skip Servant (keep Mimic, save 2-3k gold) seems to show that they're unnecessary safeties. Might consider re-cutting those. Having two Whipbirds with StrongD and HealAll, one with TatsuCall and LureDance and the other with Defense, seems to be what's key to this route's effectivity. StopSpell does help with S Class as well, though. And using Mimic over Servant introduces Defeat hit-chance RNG, where Servant does consistent damage each turn. Defeating them will get you a random item, assuming space is available in your inventory. You will fight these trainers if no other trainer criteria is met. Merchants - Found by walking 200 steps on one floor, then going to the next floor. Merchants will fill up your inventory with meats, from BadMeats to Sirloins. There is a rumor that spawning the Merchant is tied to not picking up any items on a floor. This is completely false, however read the Cleric's explanation. COWNOTE: 0x92E counts up to 200 with every step you take. At 199 it rolls over to zero and sets 0x92D to 7 Bards - If the current floor you are on has two or less screens, the next floor you access has a chance of spawning a Bard. Bards will take your monsters' lowest stat and increase it by 20 upon defeat. Wizards - If the current floor you are on has 16 screens, and all sixteen have been visited (or shown on the map with MapMagic/MapHerb) then the next floor has a chance of spawning the Wizard. Wizards will warp you 20 floors. Clerics - These are the most complicated. More often than not, you will see Cleric trainers as foreign masters. There are two factors when a Cleric may spawn. The first is how many items have spawned on the floor you are currently on. If there is more than 1 item, then Cleric may show up. The second factor is based on how many items that you pick up. For instance, say 5 items are on a floor. For every item you pick up, the chance of finding the Cleric on the next floor increases. When you visit the next floor, the Cleric might arrive. COWNOTE: Unsure how accurate all this is, especially the line "If there is more than 1 item" part. I find that if there are 0-1 items, the next floor always has a cleric instead of whatever else I'm trying to spawn.
